1 Sep 2009 - Newsletter Autumn 2009

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to be writing my first newsletter to you as the Head teacher of Flushdyke Junior and Infant School. Working within the Wakefield authority is a new experience for me, as I have previously worked within Leeds for 16 years and Kirklees for 7, where I have been both a Deputy Head teacher and acting Head teacher of two different schools. During my first week, I have received an extremely warm welcome from everyone I have met, and I have been impressed with the calm, caring attitude of all the children and the commitment of the staff .The beginning of September is always a huge time of change for us all within the school community-for parents of new starters, children moving into new classes, school staff becoming accustomed to new children and this year a new Head teacher!

During assembly I talked to the children about change, and how this can sometimes make us feel anxious and apprehensive. However, change can also be exciting, providing new opportunities and challenges to move us forward in our achievements. I, personally am excited at the prospect of building upon the excellent standards which already exist at Flushdyke School. I know that the children are already settled into their classes and working really hard to progress in their learning and friendships. I am looking forward to getting to know the school community, including you as Parents and Carers and hope that we can work together to continue to provide the very best opportunities for your children.

Please say hello if you see me around!

Mrs Tracey Palk
