About Us

Flushdyke School is a Community Junior and Infants School, maintained by the City of Wakefield Education Authority.   It caters for boys and girls from 3 to 11 years of age.  Pupils may start school on a part-time basis two terms before the term in which they become four.

The school was built in 1912.   It has a central hall with four teaching areas, stock rooms, staffroom, library, computer suite, headteacher’s room and reception office.  School had a two-classroom extension built in 2003 and the whole school was refurbished and decorated at that time.  At the same time, a Foundation Stage Unit was created, and this opened in October 2003

At present, the school is staffed at headteacher plus four class teachers.

Classes comprise of mixed-age groups, which are currently organised as follows:

Class 1           Foundation Stage
Class 2           Y1, Y2
Class 3           Y3, Y4
Class 4           Y5, Y6

Class 1 is supported by a full-time Nursery Nurse and a Teaching Assistant; other classes are supported by full-time Teaching Assistants.

Our school has a positive ethos which aims to celebrate success and we have high expectations of our pupils.

Staff work together as a team in a friendly, cooperative atmosphere and are supported by a committed governing body.  We have recently been awarded the Investor in People standard for the second time.

We had our fourth successful OFSTED inspection in September 2008 and the HMI inspector judged us to be an "outstanding school".
